Description

Do you want to have your morning coffee and watch the sun come up while sitting on the front porch in the swing or the rockers listening to the birds sing; away from the noises of city life, traffic and stress? Then this is the place for you. Our Wakulla Springs Retreat is located on 5 secluded acres of hardwood trees off the beaten track but close to the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail (15 miles of a beautiful paved bicycle corridor), Wakulla Springs State Park, the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, the Apalachicola National Forest, the San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park in the town of St. Marks at the confluence of the beautiful St. Marks and Wakulla rivers, the Felburn Foundation Playground with covered picnic tables and a fabulous array of playground equipment. There are several excellent seafood restaurants close by so you don’t have to spend your time cooking. Only 3 miles from the Retreat is Savannah’s (home of the famous $2.00 breakfast and a great country buffet at lunch and dinner).

There are many recreational opportunities abundantly throughout Florida's Forgotten Coast, known as the 'sportsman's paradise', including Salt & Freshwater fishing, hiking, bicycling, hunting and canoeing. Also, convenient access to the Gulf of Mexico is just minutes away in St. Marks.

No matter what your taste may be, whether it's flats fishing for trout, redfish, tarpon, or Spanish mackerel, or just a few miles out some of the finest grouper fishing in the Gulf of mexico, this is truly an angler's paradise, with every salt water activity you care to do, such as snorkeling for scallops, scuba diving to see some of the most beautiful natural reefs, or just a lazy day with the family at the coast.

We have plenty of room for boaters to bring their boats to the Retreat. There are several public and private boat ramps within 15 minutes of the Retreat, giving you access to the Gulf of Mexico and local rivers.

Downtown Tallahassee and Florida State University are only 15 miles from the Retreat and Wakulla Springs State Park (home of one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world) is only 6 miles from the Retreat.

Guest Testimonials
We celebrated the New Year with our family as the first guests at Wakulla Springs Retreat. We enjoyed the peace and quiet for the week. It certainly helps to remember what is really important in life when things slow down a bit.

We enjoyed the privacy and natural rural setting. This is a well furnished house with very comfortable beds and furniture. All appliances work and the kitchen items are well supplied. Nice thick towels in both bathrooms. The large deck in back was a great place to spend time. This is a good location for day tripping to the many attractions in the area. Floyd and Carol were always available to help even though we did not have any problems. We hope to spend a week here again in the future.

We are 2 couples exploring the natural, undeveloped parts of Florida. St. Mark\'s National Wildlife Refuge is listed in the the book \"50 places to go birding before you die,\" which is why we ended up at this house. The house is about 15 minutes from the Refuge. The house is modest; it was clean, comfortable, and feels lived-in and homey. We cooked meals there and were pleased to find a well-appointed kitchen. There was a bathroom for each couple, which we appreciated. Floyd and Carolyn were very accommodating and easy to contact with questions. We arrived after dark and Floyd met us in the parking lot of a local restaurant and led us to the house. It feels like it is off the beaten path but is actually closer than it seems to the main road and local attractions. It was a pleasant home away from home.

Home away from home!

We totally enjoyed our stay ... close enough to Tallahassee and far enough to feel like a getaway. The home was nicely furnished with everything we needed. We had 4 adults and 1 child and were very comfortable. We really enjoyed the large deck and fenced in yard for our dog. The owners have continued to make improvements based on other suggestions as we noted from the guest book. They care about making the place as cozy as possible and are nearby if you need anything. We took the family to Wakulla Springs and the riverboat tour was awesome. Next time we are going to visit some of the other places closer to the coast and enjoy what Florida was meant to be. Seafood around these parts is great too. If you like to run or bike or just take long walks, there is a paved shaded path is 16 miles long within .5 miles from the house. https://www.floridastateparks.org/trail/Tallahassee-St-Marks

Retreat

House was clean; beds were comfortable. Really nice deck and fenced backyard. Short drive into Tallahassee. Carolyn & Floyd were very kind & helpful.

Great location to visit Tallahassee

We spent a weekend at the retreat while attending a family event in Tallahassee. The space was just right for our family. It is so much nicer to be in a house than a hotel room when the kids go to bed. The house is well stocked and had everything we needed and then some, such as a basket of toys and some children\'s books. It was convenient to town. We hope to have time in the future to explore Wakulla Springs and St. Marks. We did enjoy a takeout seafood dinner from Kast Net that we enjoyed very much. We hope to return one day. Thank you to Floyd and Carolyn for great communication.

Clean, comfortable and convenient!

My family spent Thanksgiving at The Wakulla Retreat and enjoyed every minute! The home was clean and comfortable and close to so many interesting things to see and do. The large deck was a great place to savor peaceful mornings and became the perfect al fresco dining room for Thanksgiving dinner. It is evident that the owners love this little corner of the world, and are happy to share it with their guests. Thank you, Floyd and Carolyn, for your kind hospitality. We hope to visit again, soon!

This is probably one of the cleanest most well stocked places we have ever stayed. Much cleaner than some of the hotels which are much more expensive. We were there for the 4th of July weekend, both of our boys go to FSU and we wanted a place outside of the city, this was perfect. We rented a boat at Shields Marina which is a short 10 minute drive then went into Tallahassee that evening for the fireworks. The back deck was great for cooking out which we did the night we arrived. Everything in the place really makes you feel right at home. We will most definitely be back!!
