About Lewis Smith Lake (or Smith Lake) is located in North-Central Alabama about 20 miles northwest of Birmingham in state of Alabama (U.S.) counties of Cullman, Walker and Winston. The 300-foot high dam, completed in 1961 by Alabama Power Company, impounds the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River to form the lake. Smith Lake has a surface area of 21,200 acres, 500 miles of shoreline, a watershed area of 944 square miles, a retention time of 435 days, and a maximum depth of 264 feet. The western side of the lake's watershed is crowned by the 180,000-acre Bankhead National Forest, which blankets the deeply dissected southern edge of the Cumberland Plateau. The Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River, Alabama's only Wild and Scenic River, flows through the Bankhead National Forest. The Sipsey Wilderness, Land of a Thousand Waterfalls, lies within the Bankhead National Forest and is home to Alabama's largest tree, a tulip poplar with a 21-foot circumference at its base.

Great location and room for a large family!

7/30/2018 We had a great experience! Aqua Vista is two homes joined together and the kids LOVED it! Lots of places for hide and seek- little hidden rooms, winding staircase. My cousin\'s little girl wants to move here!! The dock was just fabulous with terrific views and room for a BBQ crowd. The kids could jump from the upper deck and they had a blast doing that! We used our boat\'s depth finder to make sure they had plenty of water for doing this. This home is at the entrance to a little cove and was perfect for kayaking, It may seem redundant to have 2 kitchens- but was very helpful to have 2 fridges and 2 washer/dryers. We would start in the lower kitchen for coffee and breakfast. Then use the larger upper kitchen for dinner food prep. I would recommend using the Smith Lake Dam boat launch. It was very spacious, free and only a few minutes from the house. Gas/ice is close by at Duskin Point Marina but you get a better price at Duncan Bridge Marina. The town of Curry is 15 minutes away and has a Foodland grocery store, Ace hardware, Dollar General, pharmacy, Subway and Jacks. Our host John was very responsive to some AC issues. We appreciate his diligence in keeping this home comfortable, very nicely decorated and reasonably priced for a group.

Looked great. Was great.

There were 7 adults 4 teens and 3 children under 7. Plenty of room. Nicely decorated. Great dock for swimming and fishing. Owner is really nice and keeps his property in great shape. Great Lake location

Best dock with the best view on the lake!!

We just returned from an amazing vacation in the Aqua Vista. Our group consisted of 8 adults and 5 children and we all sleep comfortably. I have been vacationing on Smith Lake for many years and have rented 7 different homes. This house and location was one of the best! The kitchens were well stocked with everything we needed and with quality cookware just like we have at home (not the cheap stuff). Having 2 kitchens was so nice with our large group. The dock was amazing with the best view we have ever had! It has the benefits of being just on the edge of a cove where you avoid a lot of the boat traffic but still faced the big water so that you can see it all. Another bonus to this house was the proximity to Squirrel\'s Marina where we rented a pontoon and was able to get ice each morning for our coolers. We have stayed in houses on the lake before that were a good 20-30 minute drive from a store that sold ice. John was really nice to work with and was very prompt on answering any questions we had prior to and during our stay. You can really tell that he is dedicated to making his renters happy and comfortable during their stay. We are already discussing when our group can go back!!!

Good, but need some improvements.

Ten of us were very comfortable in six bedrooms. The dock is amazing, has plenty of shade to hide from the sun. Has a really nice grill, but takes a long time to worm up and cooks slow, so start your cooking well ahead. The kitchen did not have cutting boards, so it was really hard to chop vegetables on the paper towels. Some of us brought one from home, so there one small board now. Plenty paper towels, bath towels, but if you need extra blankets, bring with you. There was no wifi for guest, when we were there, but maybe the owner will adjust that buy getting a guest password. No blender, toaster or wine opener. But plenty of pots and pans in both kitchens, so you can toast on a skillet. Two fridges, stoves, microwaves, coffeemakers, dishwashers. There is car pot for two cars, and garage for two more cars, which came in handy when there was a hale warning. A small room in the bottom of the stairs (with vacuum), need to be treated from moldy smell and a cause of that. Bring body/hand soap and shampoo. One bedroom is a walk through between upper level and lower level, so no privacy, but it has it\'s own bathroom. I will recommend this house to a friend, just will give a heads up, so they will be prepared. Since no house will have everything. All of my family wants to rent the place again.

Roomy house - perfect for families!

Our family gets together once a year for a \'vacation\' which consists of anywhere between 13 and 15 people regularly. We opted to stay at the Aqua Vista because of proximity to everyone and the house features! 6 bedrooms is exactly what we needed! The house is nice, but was a very hot when we arrived because the ACs had not been turned on in advance. However, once they were turned on, the house cooled off quickly while we enjoyed the beautiful lake! This house is about 30 minutes from Jasper which is the closest spot for grocery shopping for a crowd, but it\'s an easy drive! Be sure to rent a boat during your stay so you can see more of the beautiful lake! We will definitely be returning!
