Wantara Garden Suites, a manor house with buildings set in a beautiful garden in the middle of historic Quito, is apt to relax after exploring the city. Carefully decorated Suite Colibri (45 m2) is fully equipped without loosing its colonial charm.
 
The space
Fascinated by the magic of the 'Old Town' where authentic Ecuadorian traditions are still alive and can be experienced in its streets and places, we decided that this is where we want to live. After a year of extensive search we finally found this treasure. It took us three years to carefully renovate the property. Within the 15.000 sqft of the old historical villa with its gardens we created eight independent units cautious of not loosing the colonial charm but adding all the contemporary comforts. Art objects in the lush garden and cozy living spaces gives 'Wantara' a very special flair. A breeze from the Panecillo hill provides fresh mountain air and you sit outside, surrounded by flowers and enjoy the sunny Ecuadorian climate.
 
The design of the areas gives you the chance to interact with the other people in our condo, or to stay private. You can use an ample green area as well as a pergola with hammocks and a BBQ.
 
Quito's colonial city center is a UNESCO world heritage site and you should definitely not miss exploring it while you are in Ecuador.
 
Guest access
You are most welcome to relax in our peaceful garden area, use the gazebo and BBQ and harvest herbs for personal use. Our selection of board games, DVDs and books is waiting for you.
A Recreation Center ( Gym, pools, courts, etc ) is in 5 minutes walking distance.
 
Interaction with guests
We are a couple with German origin and have been living 28 years in Ecuador. Among other activities (landscaping & landart, biological water purification systems) we also have worked as a tour operator for a long time. Now we created Wantara Garden Suites, an example of restoring a historical property in Quito's old town.
 
We provide a professional service and can help our guests organizing all the little treats that make travelling easier and love to share our uniquely peaceful space with interesting people from all over the world.

Other things to note
General Safety Advice
The Historical Center of Quito has many foreign visitors and the Municipality provides a tourist police service that cares specifically about visitors. Pick-pockets do operate in crowded places such as public buses or plazas, so be careful in these circumstances. If you feel unexpectedly pushed by several persons you should hold your handbag close to you and step to one side. It is advisable not to carry around expensive equipment and avoid walking with cameras and jewelry exposed.
 
We recommend leaving your important documents and cards in your suite. You can identify yourself with a photocopy of your passport. Take only the necessary things/money you need for each visit.
You might be asked by others to show them the condominium out of curiosity. Unless you are very familiar with that person and trust him/her, you can say your host does not allow visitors.

Excellent Stay


I was deciding between a modern apartment by La Carolina, and the Colibrí Suite, and I ended up choosing the latter for a three night stay. I\'m glad I stayed in this comfortable, lively, and soulful villa. The grounds are very lovely, and bravely defy the urban vibe of the rest of Quito. I found the suite to be charming, down to the chimenea in the corner of the living room. My friend reports that the futon right beside the chimenea offers a fairly comfortable night\'s sleep, and there are plenty of spare sheets, comforters and pillows in the bedroom. The kitchen is stocked with everything, even a blender. I was able to have a load of laundry done for $5, the shower was hot, and (except for a few-hour glitch on the final night of my stay) the wifi was strong and quick. The owners are kind and knowledgeable people who really take pride in their villa, and I was able to leave a bag behind on my last night and pick it up later with the help of the neighbor Marcelo. There aren\'t many shops nearby, but this was not an issue for me because it\'s easy to find a taxi two blocks down the road, at any time night or day. I recommend taking a taxi in this area at night. In whole, my experience was pleasant and romantic, and I\'d gladly come back for another stay.
