In this ocean paradise, you can surf world class breaks, swim and soak up the sun, or just kick back and rest or read on the sand under shade trees. Our property manager, Miguel Guadamuz, can arrange any tour that youd like. Whether you ride a long board or short board, you can always find a fun ride at Playa Avellanas! Surf Breaks include Little Hawaii (a right point break on the north end of Playa Avellanas), right and left river mouth breaks, several beach breaks, and a left point break on the south end of the bay. So, are you ready to enjoy life in this little slice of heaven? You can rent one cabin at the prices listed under the Rates tab above. However, you can rent both cabins at a reduced rate and save $100. Note: When checking the calendar for availability, please don't be discouraged if the calendar shows the cabin is booked because it is possible that only ONE of the cabins is booked and the OTHER is still available. To check for availability of the other cabin, please check my other listing on VRBO, or send me an inquiry on this website. *The Avellanas Express Bus Line provides service from Tamarindo to Avellanas and as far south as Nigra. The cost from Tamarindo to Avellanas is $6 per person.

Awesome Place

The cabins are new, clean and have everything you need. The kitchen and air conditioning are great benefits as many rentals in the price range don\'t have either! This area has some of the best surfing in all of Costa Rica so bring your board!

Avellana AllRighta

Playa Avellana was beautiful! The beach was really stunning. We were able to walk to the beach from the cabina. There is a a cheap shuttle bus that will run you into Tamarindo that is super convenient and easy to access. Tamarindo had great shopping, good restaurants and another super beach. Cabina is very clean, well-equipped, with a super comfy bed. They also have a safe and good security which adds to your peace of mind. Lola\'s Bar has great food (try their mahi-mahi fried fish) with affordable prices. Overall, wonderful spot to stay at. Private compared to some beaches, especially if not holiday time and good for both surfing and swimming with surf fishing close by, too.

Nice

The property was nice along with the location. Convenient to many local restaurants by car. The only complaint I would have is the water heater being located in the bedroom was disturbing during the night while sleeping.

Cute cabina, great place to stay

Location: It\'s in the area of Playa Avellanas, off the main road and away from the dust and traffic. You can walk to the beach via the short cut through Cabinas Las Olas. Or just a short drive to Lola\'s and park there for the day. It is about $3 to park at Lola\'s and just east of there. But if you are early enough, drive south of Lola\'s there a small area amongst the trees you can park. (They have paid parking because there was some petty thefts going on...I know in some of the other beach areas the people at the parking lots are paid employees for very minimal wage.) Driving there: We\'ve been in the area before, so we knew where were we going. There\'s an app called Waze that alot of people use in Costa Rica for driving (it uses data on your phone) If you make it to Avellanas, you are good to go. If you need a transfer from the airport, check out TPV Costa Rica. They can also help you with tours. Our night landmark...leaving Lolas or from the south - turn between the 40 kmp sign and Blue Water Property For Sale Sign. Or during the day look for the cell phone towers, as the cabina is right next to it. Cabina: There was just two of us. We were basically just there to sleep :) We did make breakfast every morning - and had all the utensils for that. It has an a/c in the bedroom and a big fan in the living/dining room, as well as a small portable fan. The cabina had pretty much everything you need for a stay. It does have wi-fi, its not optimum speed for streaming movies, but checking email, facebook, you should be good. Cabina also has a fold down futon - that might be too cozy for 2 adults, but 1 adult or 2 kids should be fine. Also has an outdoor shower and a nice porch for relaxing. Safety: We\'ve been to Costa Rica several times and this is a safe location. Cabina does have an ADT alarm system. Other information: Supermarket - Before going to cabina, drive into Santa Cruz to go to the supermarket (turn right at the first stop light). Items will be more affordable than and the mini-supers along the beaten path. We didn\'t even go to Tamarindo on this trip -- it is just so busy and lots of people there...unless you are looking for a tourist trap. Dining - Lola\'s about $20 a piece. If you want an elegant dinner opt for Villa DeVenna in Playa Negra - min. $100 for 2, but well worth it & made by 5 star chef. Kon Tiki for Pizza. Currency exchange - it\'s not necessary, most everywhere takes the US Dollar and MC & Visa.

Playa Avellanas Surf Trip

I stayed here with my friend for a short surf trip. It was a great little place located near Playa Avellanas. We arrived to Liberia Airport at night and after a struggle with the rental company (I would highly recommend Budget - cheaper overall including weekly price AND insurance that you have to have, but stay AWAY from ALAMO...way overpriced and they overcharge for insurance) we ventured to Playa Avellanas at NIGHT. Overall not a bad driving trip but it is hard to see signs but we came pretty close to getting it right the first time. I spoke with George the owner and he said that he is going to put in some better markers on his directions for those who arrive at night. The place that George and Kathy have is great. Clean and advertised as is. 2 little houses on a cute piece of property near Playa Avellanas. I easily walked to the surf each day through Cabinas Las Olas, or just jumped in the car and drove 2 min to Lolas and parked (you have to pay to park in their lot, or just park on side of the road right before Lola\'s for free) or 5 min to Playa Negra. The house does have AC in the bedroom and a nice fan in the living room/dining room. It is a basic place but we didn\'t need much. Stocked with fridge, toaster, blender, coffeemaker, stove/oven, sink, microwave and pots/pans and plates and utensils. Has an outdoor shower which is nice post surf to rinse off the salty water. Make sure you stop at one of the nearby Supermarkets and stock up on food beforehand as the road in is pretty bumpy and slow. Overall had a great trip and would recommend Cabinas De Maria to anyone going to the Nicoyo peninsula!
