Welcome to Dainava. Our very charming, comfy lakefront property is only 45 minutes north of Montreal between Morin Heights & St. Sauveur. (2 hours from Ottawa), and is situated in the Morin Heights region in the Laurentian Mountains.
The house is very romantic with its paneled interior, while being ideal for families & couples & groups of friends…with something for everyone. There’s all types of great books on many subjects, games, puzzles & the like. This house has a wonderful collection of paintings on the walls for art lovers.
Sleeping for six to eight guests maximum is available at this property.
I am the manager of a symphony orchestra. We are local and take care of all the needs of the house ourselves. We rent during the winter, long weekends and usually by the week in the summer.
Traveling back to Canada to visit family can sometimes leave you to want more space to visit. Nothing like a beautiful lake spot in the quiet north to create so many family memories and be a stunning backdrop to a spectacular week. This house served so many purposes from the functional - 3 well appointed bedrooms plus 2 living spaces, 2 full bathrooms, dining and kitchen to the unexpected - this house left us wanting nothing more! It was fully equipped right down to kitchen utensils and an abundance of pots and pans. We found ourselves remarking several times at how, even though we had a family of 6 staying at one time, we never felt cramped or in each others way. The living space was roomy and no one was left out of a sitting area whether it was in the living room, dining room or spending a day overlooking the lake on the wrap around porch. The lake was gorgeous this time of year and we were serenaded with the songs of bullfrogs and loons as well as the delightful melody of song birds. We felt so much at home. It truly felt like a home away from home and we will certainly visit again.
We rented the house/cottage for a week in the summer a few years ago, and are renting again for two weeks this summer of 2012. Our experience was that the setting was perfect for an experience as a family, or for one or two persons. The owner, Lucy, was more than hospitable and worked well with us prior to the experience and after. We found the house comfortable and clean and look forward to seeing the improvements and new projects done to the home since that time. We loved the layout ... a big outside porch and dining table, comfortable bedrooms, outdoor beauty, and fully functional kitchen. We did water activities, including boating and swimming and fishing; we explored the ski areas within an easy distance drive; we visited Montreal several times. What a perfect location for a vacation for all ages!!! We definitely look forward to the two weeks in august when we will be there again!
The cottage is ok, some things are very nice, other things, like the beds and kitchen, are beat up. The price is fair, as it isn't that expensive. It is a personal cottage, and dealing with the manager was harder than it needed to be. Multiple in person meetings, many pointless phone calls, and eventually I was criticized for not returning a call the same evening. The stereo was a collection of 1970s relics that did not work, we tried to get it to play, and were charged 50 dollars for a technician to fix it. We left the place immaculately clean, and expected our full deposit back.
