Dear People, My name is Gianni Franceschi, born in Lanusei Sardinia. At the age of 18 years I came to The Netherlands where since 1976 I\'m working for The Dow Chemical Company in Terneuzen. Beside my own job, I began renting some houses of family and good friends of mine. The owner on place, will welcome you with open arms. Though, I do have all the responsibility for a smooth and proper running of your vacation and as intermediary \'tween you and the owner of the property.

Or choose from one of the many excursions which leave Santa Maria Navarrese to the mountain town of Baunei to visit a rich territory full of nature trails and history whilst admiring numerous traces left by man and his accordance with nature along the way.Ogliastra, a fairly recent discovery with its beautiful coasts and mountainous interior. Its territory, wedged between sea and mountain, offers a vast array of unique landscapes. A paradise of remarkable beauty situated along the eastern side of Sardinia, where nature is at its best. Some people think that the name Ogliastra derives from the wild olive trees growing in great numbers in the region, but more credited sources link it to the Agugliastra, a huge monolith overlooking the sea. Santa Maria Navarrese, a small tourist town on the coast, a hamlet of Baunei, a few kilometres from Tortolì-Arbatax. Renowned for its promenade along the beach La Centrale, characterized by the Saracen tower. Another natural attraction in the town centre is �Gli olivastri� (the olive groves), considered a natural monument. Also worth visiting are the beautiful beaches of Cala Goloritzè, Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine and Cala Luna, which can be reached on foot or by boats that sail daily. The Golgo tableland is a more or less level, vast extension located approximately 400 metres above sea level that is bordered by dolomitic ridges and crossed by streams and waterways and narrow gorges (passes) that lead to the sea (an example is Codula di Sisine), which give rise to numerous small beaches of incomparable beauty and unique in the world.

Defined as the most wildest trek in Italy, �Selvaggio Blu� probably is also the most original and beautiful one. The valleys from the inland open their way to the sea shaping beautiful coves where you will be able to refresh almost every day. This trek that goes from the town of Santa Maria Navarrese to the beach of Cala Luna, follows from south to north, the coastline of one of the most beautiful gulfs of the Mediterranean sea: the Orosei Gulf. The panoramas and sceneries offered can not be found in other places in Sardinia. The terrain is rocky and uneven and in some places where rocks close the way, easy climbs and rappels will be necessary. Persons with long experience in journeys, alpine expeditions and explorations in the world, always said that this trek is surprisingly fascinating and unique, and also for the �normal� excursionist this itinerary always overcomes the expectations regarding the beauty.

Tourism in Sardinia is a fairly new phenomenon and up until just recently, staying in modest inns or private dwellings, especially outside of the main urban centres or a few well-known seaside destinations, was inevitable. Sardinia offers different types of accommodation besides hotels and Holiday Village; for instance you can opt for Holiday Rentals, which can also have a swimming pool or can be within walking distance from the beach. For those tourists with a particular fondness of the seaside, the differences between the various coastal regions can immediately be noted. The Costa Smeralda and the well-known tourist destinations in the area of Olbia (2 above all: Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo) are unquestionably the highlight of a cosmopolitan, elite and certainly consolidated tourism in Sardinia, although often times object of criticism for their �exclusiveness\". On the other hand, areas in the region of Santa Margherita di Pula, Porto Conte, Baia Sardinia and Villasimius are chosen mostly by travel agency tourism. Finally, areas such as Alghero, Santa Teresa di Gallura, La Maddalena, San Teodoro, Cala Gonone, Golfo Aranci and Muravera are places for the more traditional, affordable type of tourism in Sardinia. Precautions

The weather in Sardinia is typically Mediterranean. During the cold season, prevalently mild, humid mistral winds from the northwest blow while in spring and summer, the winds from Africa are traditionally hot and dry. The north-western region is rainy while the climate in the south is much dryer. The temperatures are mild with an annual average varying between +14°C to +20°C ; there are noticeable increases in the summer with an average of +30°C to +35°C, occasionally reaching +40°C. The winter temperatures on average vary between +9°C and +10°C in the coastal regions and can be as low as 0°C in the highlands of the Gennargentu mountain range. November and December are the rainy season while the driest months are July and August; it rains irregularly throughout the rest of the year. On the whole, general precipitation is not low and is between 500/600 mm a year in the flatlands, up to 700/800 mm in the interior hills and above 900 m, it reaches 1000 mm. In higher altitudes, especially on the higher parts of the Gennargentu mountain range over 1500 m, precipitation is in the form of snow that lasts for several months of the year. Medication Foreigners must ensure that any special medication taken is authorised in Italy and you should also bring its prescription or a letter from your physician. It would also be a good idea to find out from your physician what alternatives can be purchased and taken without a prescription. Access to Health Care In the case of an accident or unexpected sickness during a trip to a EEC country, EEC citizens can benefit from free or low cost health care and first aid. It\'s a good idea to have Form E 111 on hand, indicating your entitlement to health care. You can obtain a copy of this form at your local government health care office before departure. Only health care and first aid subsidised by your native country\'s health care system are covered. In some countries the treatment is free, in others partially free while in others again, the health care costs must be entirely paid for. Requests for their reimbursement are made at a later time. It\'s a good idea to keep all invoices and prescriptions. Travel insurance It\'s a good idea to have travel insurance. Regardless of the existing bilateral health care agreements, only a few EEC member countries entirely cover health care costs. An illness or accident abroad can bring about unexpected costly trip, hotel and travel expenses, a good reason to be insured. Vaccinations There are currently no vaccinations required by any of the 25 EEC member countries, however some immunizations are required or recommended for a few overseas countries. Always ask your physician before departing for these destinations.

Sardinia is proud to be one of the western-Mediterranean areas that, throughout time, has jealously protected and maintained its way of life and its mentality.
