Description

The history of Auberge Schweizer holiday rental begins in 1938, when Paul Schweizer bought a 140-acre farm in Sutton, Quebec, simply because it reminded him of the western mountains of Switzerland, where he had grown up. Paul and his wife, Margaret worked hard at running the farm, and at raising their six children. Times were difficult and the farm proved to be rocky and untamed. Then disaster struck in 1948, when their home burned to the ground. They found it nearly impossible to recover from the fire, and realized that the farm could not support them. With the help of neighbours and friends, they managed to rebuild their house, and decided to begin an Auberge and restaurant. The only problem was they had no rooms to rent. Paul built the family three rooms over the hayloft, and the family moved in so they could rent out their own newly-built home to lodgers. People quickly became enamoured with Auberge Schweizer, and they flocked from the city to enjoy the hospitality, parties, laughter and great food that Paul and his wife had to offer. Before long, the Schweizers had to expand. They built a guest house with several rooms to rent, and then later added Swiss-style chalets, tucked into the woods. It was so successful that three of the six children still run the Auberge today, seventy years later. Auberge Schweizer is now a four-season auberge, offering the same spectacular view high above the Sutton valley. You will no longer see cows in the stately old barn, but instead horses now graze in the hilly pastures. Auberge Schweizer is known for its breath-taking sunsets, fresh, lovingly prepared food and it’s warm family atmosphere. Le Boise: Sleeps 2 - 4, Set in a pasture between two ponds, 2 bedrooms with private bathrooms (therapeutic bath), Modern fully equipped kitchen, Luxurious living room with woodstove, Balcony with breathtaking view of sunsets.
