The town nestles just south of the Lake District, less than twenty minutes drive from Coniston Water and Windermere. Ken and Brenda, the proprietors, have created a friendly atmosphere and always extend a warm welcome to their guests and are pleased to provide for any special requests. All rooms are ensuite with tea and coffee making facilities. Virginia House was built around 1740, and originally owned by a Sea Captain, the hotel's name relates to the American State of Virginia, whom the original owner had connections with. From the late 18th century, the town of Ulverston had a sea port after a short canal was built to link the town with Morecambe Bay.
