Description

We're delighted to welcome you to a tour  of our new Greenhouse at Chautauqua. Why green? Besides the obvious color of the exterior, we call it Greenhouse because we built "green," using state of the art technologies in insulating, heating, and lighting and use of renewable resources. The downstairs uses slate tiles for the floor, laid over radiant heat. If you're there in the Winter, you'll more than appreciate the warmth on your feet when you get out of bed. The stairs and upstairs area are floored in bamboo, which is not only strong and durable (with care of course) but a fast-growing renewable resource.

The downstairs area has an entry with large coat/storage closet, a lavatory, and opens into a spacious kitchen, fully equipped with full size refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, and all the amenities for cooking and serving. The living/dining area is open, and large bay windows face South, with a view to the wooded area and rolling hills. A Finnish 'Tulikivi" wood stove graces the living room. The master bedroom has a queen size sleigh bed, filled bookshelves, and a marble master bath with clawfoot tub, the ultimate 'soaking' tub.

Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms - 2 with queen size beds, one with bunk bed, and another with a twin. The family room has a large leather sectional sofa, and tv/vcr/dvd player and a large ceiling fan. All windows are screened, and the breeze on Hillcrest is lovely. There's a large, roofed front porch with 4 'Chautauqua' style rocking chairs for evening relaxation. Best of all, it's one mile from the Chautauqua Institution. Parking at the Main Gate, or reduced fee ($2.00 per day) just around the corner from Andriaccio's Restaurant on Stedman Road.
