A place where you can - literally from the door - mountain bike, hike and explore petroglyphs. Or simply unwind by the pool with a good book and a glass of wine or an espresso. Just 15 miles from the town of Moab, Utah, Los Vados Canyon House is next to a creek flowing year-round through a spectacular red rock canyon. Los Vados, \"the crossings,\" refers to the three creek fords required to reach this end-of-the-road retreat.
Los Vados Canyon House is an intimate 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom home surrounded by thousands of acres of untouched red rock cliffs and mesas. Our seven acres sits at the end of a canyon that contains only one other home - a mile away. No road goes through the Los Vados property, though a small herd of cattle amble through twice a year on their way to and from grazing land. To reach Los Vados, you must pass through two locked ranch gates and cross Mill Creek, the only creek in the area running year-round. This (as well as the dirt road leading through the canyon) requires a 4-wheel drive, high clearance vehicle. Designed by a San Francisco architect and designer and completed in 1998, Los Vados Canyon House is one of only two houses in Utah included in Weekend Houses (Chronicle Books, 2000), which features beautifully designed weekend homes throughout the U.S.
The nightly rate for 2014 is $295 per night with a three-night minimum. Los Vados's weekly rental rate for 2014 is $1,770, which gives you the last night free. (If you reserve for fewer than three nights you will be charged an additional $150 cleaning fee and your reservation will not be confirmed until we have checked with our caretaker regarding her availability on those dates.) In addition, a 10.2% sales/room tax is added to the total cost of your stay as required by law. If you rent the main house, you may also rent the tent cabin across the stream for $35 a night for each night of your stay (not just the nights you use it).
