Villa Apollon was originally an annex to the Grand Hotel and when in 1895 Henri Saudan bought the hotel, he established it as a favourite with English visitors.
In those days they came to the French Riveira to escape the English winter. However it was he who installed the first 'Frigidaire' in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and opened his hotel in the Summer!
Hitherto the season on the Cote d'Azur had been for the winter only and thus he pioneered the "unheard of"' Summer Seaon. Villa Apollon was bought by the present owners, from the daughter of Henri Saudan. In the 1960s Saint-Tropez was popularised by Brigitte Bardot and the area has been popular summer holiday destination ever since.
