Description

Mandy and Richard warmly welcome you to their lovingly restored 16th century family home.  A building of long and varied past, which was renamed in 1997 to Elbie House. It is one of the oldest buildings in the area and even boasts the signature of Sir Winston Churchill amongst the deeds. In the early days of the extensive renovation, undertaken by Richard and Mandy, an elderly lady in her 90's called by to tell a story of her childhood growing up in Elbie House.  At the time it was a farmers' meeting place and she recalled a caged dancing bear coming along too!  No longer dancing bears, but dogs, chickens, rabbits and bearded dragons all live in harmony. Our guests are welcome to come and go freely during their stay and take full advantage of the spotless, warm and tastefully furnished rooms.  The garden is a real treasure and continues to improve each year.  Topiary lollipops and shaped box and bay continuing to be a bit of an addition. 2009 saw a raised oak vegetable garden take it's place alongside the chicken house and as complete novices to growing veg, interesting times are ahead.

Aga cooked breakfasts include our free range eggs and locally sourced free range meat where possible. Homemade bread, jams and preserves, fresh juice, fruit and yoghurt are flavour of the day, and if you are still hungry you can attack the muesli and cereals. We are lucky enough to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, surrounded by walks galore, for those wishing to walk off their substantial breakfast you can ramble across fields and through woods along the waters edge. Alternatively you can sightsee in and around the Cotswolds, take in Oxford (by bus, punt or foot), Woodstock and Blenheim Palace, Bicester Village (designer retail outlet), Cotswold Wildlife Park, etc., the list is endless and there will be a favourite for everyone. By evening we recommend local pubs, restaurants and entertainment.
