Welcome to my little corner of the world! Im a widow with two grown sons, an incurably curious traveler, and a lover of culture and architecture. I split my time between my home in Maine and El Zapato, my colorful, whimsical shoe-shaped house in downtown Santa Barbara, designed by artist Jeff Shelton. Its filled with playful details, including lobster tiles celebrating Maine. I call it Red Shoe Living: live for today, be happy, and give back!

I had a wonderful long term stay here (2 months). The unit is incredibly well setup for a long weekend or longer stays. Full kitchen (dishwasher included) with proper cooking equipment is a rarity on Airbnb and much appreciated here. Wi-Fi signal is great and make any remote work easy. Location is fantastic - few blocks from State Street and a short 15 minute walk to the Beach. Hosts are super communicative and answer questions very quickly. Overall 5/5 stay. Couple things to keep in mind, you are in a building with multiple units, however this one felt very private. You have your own private outdoor terrace. There is also laundry, however it is shared with another unit. AC is only in the bedroom - but no where in Santa Barbara has full central air and the weather is normally very pleasant. But the large windows and being on the second floor make for great airflow even in the summer heat waves. Would stay again!
This was the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. The location was peaceful with beautiful views and just a short walk from both downtown and the beach. We are a family of two adults and two children and the apartment had plenty of space for all of us (the kids slept on the fold out couch) and we all loved all the funky details. Highly recommend.
I have nothing but good things to say about my stay at El Zapato. I will 100% stay here again. The space is so fun and beautiful with amazing views, a true Santa Barbara feel. And the location is perfect - just a few minutes walk to State Street and the beach. Maybe even more importantly, I can’t speak highly enough of both hosts, Carla and Diane. Twice during my stay I had an accommodation concern (a malfunctioning lock due to dying batteries, for example). Carla and Diane were fast to respond, helpful, kind and incredibly accommodating. They made my stay a 10/10
This was an amazing trip for our family in such a great location and great building with an amazing view on Rivera and beautiful patio that even bigger that we was need. Great time to spend in this place. We stayed family of 3, for a month with a child and it was working for us great. Esther and dryer is very helpful! Car parking always available on street parking!
