Casa dos Sonhos (The House of Dreams) is a detached family villa to a high specification, in a raised village location with stunning views of the local area, providing a secure private tranquil setting in gardens with its own private pool. If you are looking for a villa in a peaceful rural setting with amazing views and safe walking areas you are here at the House of Dreams. Set on its own plot where you can sit and bathe in privacy not overlooked but not
feeling enclosed. Come and see for yourself what others have enjoyed for more than ten years. Large and comfortable alfresco dining annex, equipped with two gas BBQ Grills, fridge and freezer, electric oven grill, coffee maker and all necessary utensils. There is also a games and entertainment room with bar, music centre and a selection of 60s vinyls and CDs, a dart board and a pool/snooker table.
 
There are ample relaxation areas with very comfortable swing seats and comfortable pool beds in sun and shade and now featuring a separate double luxury sun bed in a summer house on the pool terrace. The villa is ideally set up for couples or family holidays with complete privacy. The accommodation is luxuriously equipped and capable of comfortably sleeping 6 guests with ease. 1st double bedroom ensuite with a walk in shower and choice of twin or kingsize double beds, 2nd standard double bedroom. 3rd bedroom, with twin or kingsize double beds. Arranged as you require at booking enquiry stage. Central heating can be arranged for out of season bookings on request, if required. Pool heating is available at no additional charge from 1st June to 30th of September. For other months it can be made available on request at enquiry stage, pre booking. A/C is installed in all bedrooms. Free Internet access is available. Relax in the very comfortable lounge and enjoy the large TV with SKY//BBC/ITV/ channels, and with a NOS box showing European channels.
 
There is also a DVD player and well stocked library of DVDs, CDs and popular books. If you prefer outside relaxation settle down on one of the glazed balconies with a coffee or glass of wine on a warm peaceful evening under the amazing clear starlit, skies. Or venture into the gardens and discover your favourite area, amongst many, that are equipped for your pleasure to just sit and relax and gaze at those stars that always seem so close here. Tired of star gazing ? then turn on the illuminations, light up the terrace and change the atmosphere completely and maybe enjoy an evening swim in the illuminated pool and be surprised how the water feels even warmer than in the sunshine earlier. The villa position offers easy access to safe "off road " walks in rural shady forest surroundings. The villa is located in a traditional Portuguese hamlet with local customs including wine making and tasting (in season), summer harvest festivals, grape and olive picking.
 
A quiet and peaceful location yet only 5 minutes from the Castle town of Penela and 30 mins south of the original capital City of Coimbra. About 2 hours from Porto or Lisbon. A real gem in the heart of Portugal. Within 5 minutes drive of local Supermarket, Variety of restaurants, Bars, Cafes, Shops, Hairdresser, Banks, Internet cafe, Chemists and Doctors surgery. Local Organic farmers markets are every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. There are a number of historical towns to explore within a short drive eg. Coimbra the original Capital city on the river Mondego (Oxford of Portugal) with beautiful university and Quinta das Lagrimas (the house of tears) learn about the romantic tragic " Romeo and Juliet" story and visit the fountains of Love and Tears, Fatima (Portugal's Lourdes) the city of the apparition. Tomar, about 30 mins on A13 southbound, with Moorish castle, Convento de Cristo and town market. Figueira da Foz with Ocean and amazing white sandy Beaches 30/40 minutes drive, via Condeixa and Soure. The impressive Roman villa site of Conimbriga only minutes from the house. A smaller excavation site in Rabaçal (Look for the traditional local Rabaçal cheese sold in the village and widely in Portugal. I am normally able to meet you and welcome you to the house and area on your arrival to show you the local supermarket , baker and restaurants etc.. I am always available by text, e mail or mobile for any help or information you may require.
 
A local information guide book is also available at the house to give you information of places to eat or visit. Additional information is also provided in the Mobile Hospitality Information File that is made available on booking.

I am Chris,the owner, I lived in the south of England near the New Forest near the New Forest until retired early from BT and came to Portugal and this house in 2003. I have lived here for 20 wonderful years. I love Portugal, the people and the weather and I equally feel at home here as I did in England. One big difference... The cost of living lots and fresh air, Add to that fabulous the local food, wine and beer, combined with the friendly atmosphere of the local ... what you could wish for?
I have 4 children and 8 grandchildren in UK and they are able to come here to enjoy the villa and all that it has to offer In its safe locality with pure fresh air and wonderful sunshine. We love to go out to local family restaurants for good economical meals where we eat a good full menu selection for less than 9 euros each, including wine. Excellent value and good healthy food, Well below Spain or Algarve prices. I live at the house when it is not occupied by guests so is a living home and well equipped for your needs. All I ask is that you look after it as your own

Perfect spot for a laid back vacation


We are back for the second year in a row and we stayed longer this time around, that should tell you everything you want to know. We couldn't wait to get back after our time last year. The house is comfortable, spacious and has just about everything you would think of for a lovely vacation. As a city-dweller (and a noisy city at that), I had to check I had gone deaf from time to time by snapping my fingers. That's how quiet the location is. We just made most of the pool, and the board games and snooker but there is lots to do and see around if you want to check out the sights and the rich Portuguese food scene in nearby towns. All I can say is we cannot wait to be back again!

A little corner of paradise


The house is very well located in a quiet little town with quick access to areas for all interests, from sports to history and culture, river beaches and the beautiful and lively Coimbra, as well as close enough to schedule day visits to both Porto and Lisbon. If you're like us though, you will probably never get out of the pool and the lovely garden. Okay, maybe just long enough to enjoy a game of pool in the game room or a BBQ. Chris was very available and went (literally) out of his way to fix a small issue at the beginning of our stay, making sure it was solved quickly. We enjoyed our time at Casa dos Sonhos and we'll most likely drop by again to see more of the area... if we manage to get out of the pool, that is.

Fantastic house


Beautiful place and house has much to offer, both inside and out. Beautiful rooms, large kitchen and beautiful living areas everywhere, both inside and out. The private pool is fantastic. The TV instructions could be a little clearer. Also, a really ideal holiday home.

Peaceful retreat near the Serra de Lousã


We enjoyed our stay in this well-equipped house located in the small village of Tola. All destinations (schools, sights of the region) are within easy reach. We also like the outdoor kitchen facilities! The hills of the Serra da Lousã hide small jewels, especially the houses built in stone in the Schist Villages. There are also pleasant walks nearby. Friendly communications with Chris, the friendly owner.
