Off season we are flexible on any dates.  Stay away from weekend change over days in season.   We offer early bird specials for next season before 2023.  Book early, while our rates are at their lowest.

Located only 2.2 miles up the beach in the four-wheel drive territory of Corolla.   Yes, that means you do need a 4-wheel drive SUV or truck to drive in the 4-wheel drive area. That is why they call it the 4-wheel drive area.   Some locals only have 2-wheel drive trucks, but they have been driving on sand all their lives.  There is nothing difficult about it if you let some air out of your tires.  You can drive on 20 pounds of pressure all week.  There is no reason to fill your air all week until you are ready to drive back home. There is a free filling station at the Whalehead Club about 3 miles away.

The local gas station/convenience store, restaurants, Whale Head Club, Corolla Lighthouse and most of the attractions are approximately 3 to 5 miles away. Less than 10 minutes from the Food Lion shopping complex offering unlimited shopping, restaurants, bars, golf and a movie theater.

Rated Best Undiscovered Beach on East Coast with the most spectacular Ocean to Sound views imaginable. True oceanfront living tempts you to enjoy wild mustangs grazing in your own yard, star lit walks along the beaches, waking up to the surf and exploration of the Sound in a relaxing environment.

Best wishes for a Great Outer Banks vacation. We'll be happy to give you a holler if you have any additional questions after looking over the web site or if you are interested in booking.

Sincerely,

Karen & Mike

The ocean temperature stays consistently warm throughout the summer months and into the fall season, so body boarding, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and ocean kayaking are certainly worth a try during your beach vacation. Many vacationers keep their camera ready for wild horse sightings, and the Carova wild mustangs can often be seen wandering along the oceanfront. Take plenty of pictures but be sure and keep your distance.

When NC Highway 12 ends, a ramp to the beach begins which runs parallel to the ocean and accesses the communities of Seagull, Penny's Hill, Swan Beach, North Swan Beach and Carova. The 11-mile stretch of shoreline.  Sunnybank is right in front of Penny's Hill and one of the first vacation rental homes.  Makes it easier than driving down another 8 miles when you need a milk or a case of beer.

By the time NC Highway 12 was completed all the way to Corolla in 1984, the government as well as private investors had already laid claim to much of the undeveloped land, forming refuges, parks and reserves, and a paved road through the area became impossible. A few homes were built, and continue to be developed for beach lovers, but it seems that Carova will always enjoy the distinction of being separate from the paved and popular southern towns of Corolla, Duck and Southern Shores, and worlds away from the traditional vacation.

Location, location, location, Sunnybank is only 4 miles away from several of the most famous historical sites in the Outer Banks.  Along with other great attractions.

WHALE HEAD CLUB: Completed in 1925, the sprawling lemon yellow Whale Head in Historic Corolla has served a number of purposes during its decades of operation, including housing a private school for boys and acting as a rocket fuel-testing base. Today, the Whale Head in Historic Corolla is one of Corolla's best attractions, offering seasonal guided tours, 39 acres of picturesque landscape for picnic baskets, and special facilities for weddings and special events. Seasonally, you'll find a number of the area's best events on the premises, like the weekly Wednesday wine festival, where visitors are encouraged to sample North Carolina's best wines and local foods while listening to a little live outdoor music.

COROLLA LIGHTHOUSE: Vacationers with stamina are welcome to trek up the 214 steps to the top of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse for unparalleled 360-degree views of the Outer Banks. The historic and distinctive red lighthouse is open seasonally to visitors from 9a.m. to 5p.m., and the wooded grounds, which include the original light keepers’ home, is idyllic for a bike ride or a stroll through the live oaks. As one of the last testaments to Corolla's early roots as a local seaside community and guardian for sailors traveling past the Outer Banks, the lighthouse is a must on every visitor's list.

CENTER FOR WILDLIFE EDUCATION:  Located in Historic Corolla Park, the center is an impressive and marvelous 22,000 square foot interpretive center for young and old alike to explore the history and vast diversity of North Carolina's wildlife. One of the key displays is a massive living aquatic ephemera of fish, native to the region, housed in an 8,000-gallon aquarium where families can get up close and personal with a rich variety of finned swimmers. "You have to remember we have a variety of marine eco-systems here. The ocean, the sound and an estuary so it is pretty diverse.

Currituck Banks Coastal Estuarine Reserve: Located on the borders of Corolla and the 4WD accessible areas of Carova, the Currituck Banks Coastal Estuarine Reserve is 965 acres of natural maritime habitat. Visitors are free to explore the nature trails that wind through the area for some of the Northern Outer Banks' best fishing, hunting, birding, hiking, photo ops, and wild discoveries of how all of the barrier islands of the Outer Banks used to be decades and even centuries ago.  Parking area on your right when you come off the beach from Sunnybank.

NEW COROLLA ADVENTURE PARK:  Largest Aerial Adventure Park in the Outer Banks provides an engaging, challenging, and unique physical and mental experience in the Outer Banks that is accessible to many ability levels. Corolla Adventure Park facilitates a series of opportunities for growth, creativity, and problem solving in a family-oriented environment and only 3 miles from Sunnybank.

Timbuck II is a Corolla shopping destination featuring a wide variety of retail and restaurant experiences. Visitors will wander through a massive complex featuring over 60 venues ranging from art galleries and clothing stores to gift shops, realty companies and a video rental shop.

4-wheel drive is needed to explore the Outer Banks vacation homes like they were in the good old days.  Drive down to the unique canal systems put in the 60s and kayak to the sound or just charcoal grill and play at the beautiful state park.   Fish off the bulkhead in the sound.  You are sure to see our wild horses up there.

Enjoy a picnic lunch next to the end of Highway 12 north at the VA fenced area that keep the horses on our side.  You'll have 14 miles of pristine beaches mostly pretty much all to yourself.

My husband and I planned for our retirement in our mid fifties, about 10 years ago. We decided we really missed having and loving puppies. Since puppies dont stay puppies forever we decided on getting back into breeding. Well actually Michael thought it would be a nice little hobby to keep me busy and out of trouble. We researched well behaved, good loving temperaments, intelligent and non shedding breeds and decided that PWD's were the best breed in the world & exactly what we were looking for. Because of them we have the best, happiest and most entertaining life on a daily basis imaginable.
We raise healthy, playful, mischievous PWD puppies on a diet of exercise, fun and love, all in the country sunshine. Our mix of European and American bloodlines strive to reproduce the quality of temperament that the breed originally possessed.
I visit Maui oftern when my daughter has a Surfing company in Lahaini. She comes home to help out with puppies a few times a year as well.
Our son and his family live near Pittsburgh and they also enjoy raising PWD puppies with their 2 little boys to help play with puppies.
I'm also a good problem solver.
After being married for over 33 years, I took a careful look at my Karen one day and said, "Over Thirty Five years ago we had a small cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep every night with a hot 29-year-old girl.
Now ... I have a $ (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) home, a $ (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) pick up, a nice big bed and a large screen 65" TV, but I'm sleeping with a 60 year-old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things."
Just to show you what a totally reasonable woman Karen is she told me to go out and find a hot 29-year-old girl and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa bed and watching a 10-inch black and white TV.
Aren't older women great? They really know how to solve an old guy's problems.
