Description

Shades Cottage was founded in 1980's by Newton Johnson, also known as "Bigga". This cottage was the first guest rental in Belmont Bluefields. This is a family owned cottage (family stays on property) and that contributes to the homey feeling you get once you stay with us.
 
On property there are two cottages. One cottage we call the Main cottage have two private rooms both with double beds, closets, bedside tables, fans, mosquito nets and towels. This cottage also have two bathrooms, one big shower that is shared between guests and a beautiul patio.
 
The other cottage we call the garden cottage also have two private rooms, one room consist of two twin beds and the other room a double bed. Both rooms have a fan, closet, bedside table, mosquito net and towels. The Garden cottage comes with one shared bathroom and shower, living room and a beautiful Garden view patio of the yard. Bathroom amenities are provided.
 
 We prepare meals (breakfast and dinner) here on property, just speak to my wife Gwen and she will guide you through our menu and help you chose the perfect meal. She prepares all your meals at our beautiful and spacious outdoor bar and restaurant where you can sit, listen to some reggae music and enjoy a cold Jamaican beer.
 
At Shades Cottage we strive to give our guests the best Jamaican experience of a life time, one that cannot be forgotten. So if you want to indugle in the rustic and natural Jamaican lifestyle, come to Shades Cottage your island home away from home.

Terms & Conditions

1. Check in time between 12:00pm- 9:00pm, check out time 12:00 pm

2. Each room is $35 US per night.

3. Pets are not allowed.

4. All rooms have a strict no smoking policy, however there are smoking areas outside.

5. Guests are strongly encouraged to notify cancellations or changes in bookings 72 hours in advance for single and multiple rooms reservations. The Shades Cottage Guesthouse is a social enterprise and as such is looking to have full occupancy. Your help in communicating cancellations of reservations is greatly appreciated.

6.The Shades Cottage Guesthouse provides several additional services for a small service charge:

  • Airport/Bus Station Pick up and Drop off.
  • Laundry (20% service charge)

 

7. Children below 12 years stay complimentary in the room with the parents without any charges. Children above 12 years are taken as an adult and additional sleeping options are available during your stay to accommodate more than two guests in a room. Additional rates apply.

Area Information

Belmont is well known as a wonderful fishing village. It is home and burial place to Reggae icon Peter Tosh. It have plenty of sight seeing, beautiful beaches and little shops and fruit huts. It is a very safe and comfortable environment and the people here are very friendly and welcoming.

Transport system

We have on site transportation available. However if you want to go out and experience how Jamaican travel locally to the town then you can walk out and get a route taxi or bus.

Lifestyle

Shades Cottage and the community have a strong Rastafarian culture. Our cottage is tucked away in nature and is very quiet. Most of the people here are farmers or craft vendors. Fishing is also a big lifestyle here.

Best time to visit

You can visit at anytime during the year, since we experience a tropical climate all year round.
