About Dan TaylorRetired National Park Ranger, devoted to forest conservation. I am intimately familiar with the nearby national park, and with most other recreational and cultural features in Hawaii Island. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of Hawaii natural and cultural history with travelers, and am happy to lead adventurous folks to places off the beaten track, if they ask.I speak a little bit of Mandarin Chinese (Putonghua), and I especially hope travelers from China and Taiwan will feel welcome here.Dan Taylor purchased this House in 2007Why Dan Taylor chose Royal Hawaiian EstatesThis property is part of the mid-elevation rain forest of Hawaii, now being broken up by development. I built my house here because it is as close as I can get to the natural forest and still feel connected to it. The house is built with big windows that look into the nearby treetops during the day and into the stars at night. Hot water is heated by solar panels; electricity is powered by photo voltaic panels, with backup from the electric utility. The property is a dedicated Conservation Easement --the first of several in the community.

Great Vacation Hide Away

The house was super spacious and very comfortable. The fire heated hot tub was a nice treat. Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of hot water. We really appreciated the recycling and green aspects of the property. Dan is a very nice host, super friendly and very helpful. The last half mile of the road is not paved so be careful if your car is loaded down without a high clearance. We really liked the house and would like to stay again if we ever get back to Volcano.

Excellent

True island paradise in a rainforest. Beautiful surroundings inside and out. Feels like coming home; Dan is so welcoming and helpful. Just wished you could have stayed longer so we’ll be back!

Super Relaxing, Quiet, and Beautiful Location

This place was perfect for us. It is quiet, very private, and the setting is beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the porch while our kids played and using the wood fired hot-tub. The town of Volcano is lovely.

Great value and a very comfortable house!

Dan was very responsive to our questions, as we booked prior to the recent flare-up at Volcanoes National Park-he reassured us, gave us the true story of events on island, and made sure we had everything we needed prior to checking in. He left us a bottle of wine, and came to check on us the next day to make sure we were aware of all of the amenities the property had to offer. Outstanding stay from start to finish-we can\'t thank Dan enough, and we will be back!

A hidden gem!

Our party of four spent two nights in this great and very comfortable house , beginning of June. It has everything you might wish and more. The owner traveled widely and appreciates local and foreign art, thus a house decorated with taste. There is a well provided library that can satisfy diverse interests. If the house pleased us a lot, what contributed to our happiness there is meeting with Dan, a cultivated yet simple and lovely man. Very easy, available and yet discreet...A people person who we hope to have the chance to meet again. Mahalo Dan !! XX
