Description

The Retreat Plantation House, 7 miles (11Km) from NEGRIL, JAMAICA
This classic West Indian plantation house was built in 1921 for the father of the present owner. Recently restored and furnished to its former level as the manager's residence on a still-working sugar cane property, this house holds remarkable echoes of plantation life in the last century.

The interior with sections of natural (unpainted) wood contrast with freshly painted walls, giving a modern look to the high-ceilinged bedrooms, with an overall emphasis on simplicity.

Visitors to the Plantation House will live like the owners did, and wake to the sounds of life in the Jamaican countryside. The dawn sky is often painted in bright colours; sunsets are equally spectacular.

Guests may rent a car—or not, as they choose, for there is a frequent taxi service in both directions, to Negril, for the beaches and supermarkets, and to Savanna La Mar for the fruit & vegetable market.

Beautiful home

Robin was awesome! Before our vacation he responded to emails within the day and made sure he addressed all of our needs and concerns regarding this trip! We stayed at the Retreat plantation home From July 27 to Aug 2. Our flight got in a little late The Driver Clifford picked us up! He was amazing as we drove into negril from the airport he gave us a tour. He stopped and made sure we had food for the evening. Robin waited for us and gave us a tour of the home. He made sure we were all set before he left. The next day we met the housekeeper Miss Edna. Love love love her. She was welcoming and gave recommendations for food and activities located in the book they\'ve put together for us. The wifi didn\'t work well while we were there. The home doesn\'t have AC but was a lot cooler than we expected it to be.Over all our stay was great! The location of the house was good. Clifford was so helpful and made time to help us get back and forth to little London and negril when he was available. He made us feel like family. Robin and Miss Edna were amazing also. We enjoyed our stay and the Retreat Plantation home! Thanks for everything Robin, Miss Edna, and Clifford !.

Excellent Vacation Home

Only 7 km from Negril, this old plantation house has roomy bedrooms, hammocks, ceiling fans, wi-fi, a large kitchen with all the cooking equipment and appliances you could ask for, a large dining area and table, off street parking and a territorial view of the sugar cane fields and mountains. The owner, Robin, is a real joy and makes sure that you have everything you need. It\'s a bit close to a main artery, so bring your earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

A quiet gem in the Jamaica!!

I was supposed to travel with my son and some friends and had to cancel at the last minute, so my son went and spend a week with 4 of his buddies. He wouldn\'t stop talking about how nice the house was, even sent me a video to make sure it was what we though it would be. Robin the owner was very kind to them, very friendly and made sure that they enjoyed their stay. We would highly recommend this vacation home to anyone that enjoys the tranquility of the island. They rented a car and were able to get around the entire time, it is not located right by the water but they went to the beach a few times plus they travel around the island plenty. Definitely a place that we would recommend to anyone, plus the price is right!!!

Cool Country

A very relaxed stay for two nights. It is in the country side and away from the heavily visited Negril coast, but there is still traffic noise heard from the road. We had no problems with safety. One or two quirks of the place; first, we were instructed to drink bottled water (provided free of charge). I am glad they are looking out for their guests. Two, the kitchen is separate from the house. It was kind of neat. Three, the refrigerator took a day to get cold enough to keep anything chilled, but it was the only place we stayed that had a full-sized frig in Jamaica. I would write all the great things about this place, but it would take hours. The cleaning lady was attentive, almost overly so. The cleaning lady came early morning (7:30/8 a.m.?) and just waited for us (on the porch) to get out of bed. Sometime it was awkward for me, but she was very nice.

A gracious, tranquil house, lovingly cared for

Retreat is a gracious, tranquil house in a lovely location. It has been lovingly furnished and decorated, and is beautifully maintained. Spacious, with polished wooden floors and crisp bed linen. It wants for nothing. The listing description is spot-on, and the photos convey the ambiance very well. Robin is a delightful host, and the staff kind and caring. A world away from Negril, yet close enough to make it quick and easy to get there… if you can tear yourself away from the house! A good base for exploring the western end of the island.
