On the Beach


We had a lovely stay at Big on the Beach on North Captiva. Our party of 13 slept comfortably and enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving holiday. Hosts Richie and Paula helped us plan our trip, stock the house with groceries, and get settled after taking the ferry from Pineland. The house couldn\'t be any closer to the ocean and has expansive views of the water. It was well appointed with towels, beach towels, beach chairs, kayaks, bikes, and a stocked kitchen able to handle cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Highlights of our trip included dinner at Over the Water restaurant (highly recommend) and our sightseeing trips to Cabbage Key on Captain Richie\'s boat. As native Floridians we\'d never been to North Captiva but we had a wonderful time on this charming little island.

vacation in paradise......


What an awesome house. We were greeted by Paula with a island smile and welcoming attitude. We have vacationed on the island for 19 years. We have stayed in a variety of beach front homes but none compare with the view and access to the beach as this house. Three steps and your on the beach with full use of beach chairs, kayaks and sand toys for the kids. Inside there is a view of the gulf from every room and ample furnishings. exploring the island there are turtles, manatees, alligators, starfish, stingrays, dolphins and yes snakes... At the end of a long day there is a hot tub to relax in. So much more I could add. It is just a great place to stay....

Perfect for large groups!


We\'ve stayed in numerous homes on the island over the years, but have typically had to get a couple different houses to accommodate our group. This year we wanted to be directly on the beach and all be together, so Big on the Beach was perfect for us! November is our adults only trip and we booked for 12 people and had plenty of room for everyone. The house is not as luxurious as some of the others on the island, but it is completely comfortable, spacious, very clean and great for gathering everyone together or taking time to yourself. One of the best features is being directly on the beach and not having to lug chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc., on golf carts then down to the beach. So much easier to just walk out your door. Also, we never once turned on the A/C due to the constant ocean breeze. We merely left doors and windows open and the sound of the surf at night, was absolutely my favorite part! Keep in mind, the amount of beach fluctuates frequently on the island. We were lucky and had plenty of beach in front of the house, but I have seen the water up to the house at other times. That\'s probably the only issue that may effect your trip, if you\'re expecting to walk right out your door and land on the beach. I would highly recommend Big on the Beach for a wonderful experience and must include the caretakers as part of the reason your trip will exceed your expectations. Capt. Richie and Paula went out of their way to make sure we had an exceptional time and take such great care of the property. Thank you all for another great trip to the island!!!

Beyond Expectations!


Looking too good to be true from the pictures on the website, we found this beautiful North Captiva get-a-way beyond our expectations. We had a beautiful week with 16 of us, 8 adults and 8 children, ranging in age from 10 months to 18. It was a very comfortable house for all of us with respect to making meals, sleepng, and spreading out with privacy as well as full family time. We loved being right on the beach, spending most of the time in the water and exploring the island, and enjoyed the pools at the club as well. We were even able to get a forgotten medication via a mainland pharmacy then boat delivery within just a few hours! The perfect low key vacation with promises to come back.

Fantastic Week!


This home is so beautiful inside and out. It\'s location is sublime. Listen to the lapping waves as you wake in the morning for a stroll on the beach. Go snorkeling in your front yard. View manatees and porpoises from the decks of the house. Take a kayak to the sand bar. Build sand castles and sip a cocktail as you relax the day away on the beach. It was no less then amazing! Thanks for sharing your amazing home. It was worth every penny.
