Kovalam is a busy tourist resort. Very popular location since the days of the hippie 60s. Similar to Goa.
Back in the 1960s and 1970s men used to bus into Kovalam to view half naked tourist women in their bikinis. Now beach wear is the norm in Kovalam - but not in most other parts of Kerala.

Local buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis - easy to use.
Most of the restaurants do not have an alcohol licence - so a beer might be offered in a teapot - or similarly disguised.
The beaches are very busy with tourists promenading along the sea front. There are many restaurants and gift shops.
