Description

Byre Cottage is located in a beautiful rural area in West Cork Ireland. On your holiday here you can sit back and take in the panoramic views of the West Cork countryside or venture out for walks along the quiet country roads and walking trails. You will find complete peace and tranquilty only 1.3 miles from Rosscarbery Village and one hour from Cork City.

Byre Cottage is located just a short distance from the main Rosscarbery/Skibbereen Road (N71), the main road from Cork City to the west of the county. This gives you easy access from all routes via Cork City, including the airport and ferryport, all only one hour away:

The newly renovated Cork International Airport provides regular flights to and from most of the major cities of the UK and Europe. Some guests also travel down to West Cork after flying into Kerry, Shannon or Dublin airports.
Ringaskiddy Ferryport provides services between Cork and Swansea or Roscoff (Brittany). There is also ferry service via Rosslare and Dublin.

From the cottage you could walk into Rosscarbery town, just 1.3 miles away, without the need to venture onto any busy roads. Here you can avail of a variety of facilities: hotel with leisure centre and swimming pool, shops, restaurants, takeaways, pubs, churches and a new Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings.

There is a wide range of activities available in Rosscarbery and the rest of West Cork. Activities located in the immediate area include: pitch & putt, driving range, horse riding, leisure centre with swimming pool, paddleboats on the lagoon and a children's playground. The lovely Warren Strand, our local Blue Flag beach, is only two miles from the cottage. There are also many historic sites in the area, including Castle Salem, a two minute walk up the road.

In West Cork there are festivals and other events that take place throughout the year. Some of the events taking place in Rosscarbery alone include the Arts & Literature Weekend, Family Festival, Oyster Festival, Road Trotting, Road Bowling and Historical Society. The newly restored St. Fachtna's Cathedral has its own gallery and a full schedule of classical music concerts.

Rosscarbery is located between two of West Cork's busiest towns - Clonakilty and Skibbereen - offering even a greater choice of shops, restaurants, pubs, art galleries, historical sites, and more.

A little further afield you will find all that County Cork and the southwest of Ireland have to offer: a number of beaches and fishing villages dotted along the long coast, a wide range of water sports and activities, dolphin and whale watching, bird watching, walking trails, golf courses to suit all golfers, and a variety of visitor centres and historical sites to name just a few. You can take a scenic drive to the most southerly point on the mainland of Ireland, Mizen Head, and walk across the dramatic suspension bridge to the lighthouse - now a visitor's centre suited for all ages.
