Description

With Marin County lifting the ban on short term rentals we are delighted as we much prefer serving more families especially with our large space, access to nature, and animal care which has been helpful during the stress of the pandemic. With the current crisis on water in Bolinas we are asking for at least a three day minimum and weekly stays in the summer.

We are a four bedroom family farmhouse nestled on 15 acres. To describe the experience of being here our guests say it best. "Our trip was close to perfection," Louisa. "My family and I had an epic trip," Mukund. "The hosts went the extra mile," Rosha. "We were celebrating my parents 50th and had a wonderful stay at this magical house," Adrian. "We were two families with kids from 2-12 and there was something for everyone," Rebecca. "It was both energizing and relaxing to be in such nature beauty," Lori "The property itself was like having your own estate," Mike. And finally a review that made us truly proud, "You will discover kindness and a quiet retreat at this magical place. Get ready to unwind," Gabriella

Our property is almost completely private (we live in a separate, nearby unit above it to care for animals and we love to teach our guests how to feed the animals if they so desire.) The property includes a cottage in the woods,  pastures with horses, a chicken coop with chickens and bunnies and ducks. There is ample room to explore right on the grounds.

The home is well used, comfortable and ideal for families with children. There are two bedrooms with Queen beds and a back bedroom with bunk beds, a single twin bed and a crib. There is a fourth small bedroom downstairs. There are two bathrooms--one with shower and bath connected to the master bedroom, the other between the two upstairs bedrooms with just a shower. All first floor rooms connect to the outside.

One of our most favorite reviews begins with, "This property reflects an appreciation of childhood." Indeed we create magic with the open spaces, swings, a playhouse in the woods, and animals including two lovely dogs. We are mostly okay with dogs but like to talk specifically with future guests about as there are certain rules and expectations.

Due to the special nature and privacy of the property and surrounding hills the place has also been used for retreats, and other special occasions. We no longer do weddings but we love special family events birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and other special moments. We do have a modest fee for larger gatherings. Note large gatherings are not allowed at this time.

The special cottage in the woods is where children can play creatively and independently---inspired by the book The Last Child in the Woods, a book that documents the need for intimate connection to nature and to independent fantasy play for children. The cottage is surrounded by trails leading to an open meadow of five acres. There is also a suspension bridge!

Young children can access the coop to collect eggs with parental supervision. Many children including our grandchildren spend hours in the chicken coop. There are views of surrounding hills and the Bolinas Lagoon and access to nearby trails in open space and parkland. One mile from the town of Bolinas which has two miles of beachfront and locally caught fish in season, abundant organic produce and Niman meats. The property is also just three miles from the Audubon Canyon Ranch where one can watch seals and all kinds of bird life on Bolinas Lagoon; and 10 miles from Point Reyes Park HQ with its extensive trails, beaches and wildlife.

I have lived on this property for over 50 years and it is a nurturing and spiritual place for me--completely private and still. For people who value those two things it is ideal. We also have built a playhouse/cottage in the woods where children can play independently and creatively and there are all kinds of animals on the place. I try to keep up with the calendar- full time but don't always meet that goal--sorry. House is rented about half the time, used for family part time and we also donate for auctions to raise money for non-profits. The best way to inquire about availability is to email me--I am the founder of a non-profit called Summer Search and I am very prompt.
Also for special holidays and for the summer months we only rent the house by the week. Due to the covid pandemic we have changed minimum stays to three nights as cleaning is more extensive and expensive. So we are now hoping for 4 nights but there might be some flexibility so keep that in mind in your inquiries.
Linda purchased this Farmhouse in 1970
Why Linda chose Bolinas
When we saw the property in the late '70's we did not hesitate--it was the ideal place to raise a family....as well as have tranquility and deep connection to nature as an important aspect of our daily lives. When my grandkids come their first response is often, "there is nothing to do here." I agree with them! Then, within an hour or two they are gone--into the woods enjoying the magical opportunities for creative and independent play that this property offers.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Watching the lagoon for its varied wildlife, gardening, horseback riding at a local rental 10 minutes away, animal care, and sitting in the meadow enjoying a drink at the end of the day while watching the kids roam over the meadow. Often, roasting marsh-mellows around a fire-pit at night. Living in the moment. We have been discovered as what we offer had become more universally important especially to families with children. It is very personally rewarding to my and my husband to see children of all ages sort of come alive during their stay here.

Idyllic Refuge

This property is truly one of kind and Linda and Stockton go out of their way to make you feel welcome on their stunning land. We enjoyed a stay we won’t soon forget.

Focus on the Family

The green space is glorious, providing swings, running space, trails and the squeals of the kids finding the cottage was precious. We relaxed as a family and loved the animals. The owners are thoughtful and provide as much opportunity as you want to engage with the animals. Our daughters had hours of unrestricted play, and we slowed down to enjoy playing chess and reading. The fire places were amazing and it’s location is perfect. We did see the tide pools, but really you don’t need to go anywhere else. It’s enough. We can’t wait to go back in the spring if we can find the dates that align. Our six year old cried when we had to leave. She’s so timid of dogs, but at the end she cried to miss all the animals. For Christmas she asked for a golden retriever dog toy so she can remember. It’s a special place that reminds us why we love being a family.

Peaceful and Charming Bolinas Home

This peaceful and charming home was the perfect getaway for our family. We adored interacting with the animals - chickens, ducks, rabbits, horses and especially the dogs - on the property. The house is private and open. Linda and Stockton where gracious hosts. We had all we needed for our visit. We are looking forward to returning soon.

Idyllic getaway

We had a wonderful stay with our family. Our 2 year old enjoyed exploring the property and feeding the animals. The house was large enough for us to comfortably spread out. Location is ideal for exploring the area. Would highly recommend.
