The summer sun will provide the power for lighting, hot tubing, cooking, air conditioning, TV watching, with hot water for showers, baths and other energy needs during your stay. With normal energy use the lodge has a zero carbon footprint in the spring, summer and fall. The solar panels can produce more than enough electricity for your needs while you enjoy your stay. This is a peaceful place to just hang out for a while. There is no need to go anywhere, if you just want to relax and be with the nature around you, this could be the perfect place. Once you are relaxed, however, if the urge to explore comes over you, then you will have a large area to explore. There are numerous hiking trails along the Naches river and Bolder cave is about 15 miles away. Within an hour's scenic drive, there is Mount Rainier National Park, over a hundred unique wineries, Yakima Nation Casino and many great shops to explore. Then you can return to soak in the hot tub and watch the brilliant stars and other mystery objects move across the sky.

I'm Jim Farrier and I purchased this wonderful log home as a weekend home and vacation escape. I love the mountain air with the gentle summer here and the deep fluffy snow in the winter. For 20 years, I've worked about 210 miles away in Vancouver, so I drive a lot, but I've made it here most weekends in the past 12 years. My interests are nature, meditation, gardening, music, science, business, energy, spirituality, hiking, exploring, creative thinking, alternative health, developing peace and well being. I believe that life is complex with unseen forces and that we are all connected with our roots into the land. I like unusual unique things that have real value even though only a few special people can see the true worth.
I grew up in Tigard, Oregon and lived in Portland much of my life. I became tired of the city and I was fascinated and drawn to the Columbia gorge and would travel and hike incessantly in the beautiful areas. I currently live in The Dalles and have a long commute. I worked for a division of a large multinational electronics corporation. My work has been multi-faceted, dealing with both Information Technology, Project Management and Market Research. I like to use both the analytical and intuitive side of my brain for both work and play. My education is continuing in IT, Project Management, electronics, computers, communications and business. I hold an MBA from Marylhurst University. I never stop learning and I keep pushing the envelope to understand life. I've recently obtained Project Management, Agile and CompTIA IT certifications.
This place allows me to really relax, but it is also a place to dream and be creative. I feel inspired every time I set foot on the property. Among the trees, the hills and the wood, life's problems seem to evaporate and real answers seem to come naturally and spontaneously. For me this has been a marvelous place to dream, make music, enjoy relationships, write, learn and explore life to the fullest.

Why Jim Farrier chose Naches
This mountain lodge is a peaceful place. It is a place to relax with room to spread out and expand in all directions. It can be place to think and solve problems, but mostly to unwind and let your cares fade away. This place grew on me from the moment I saw it. It seemed spectacular and unusual in all respects. While I never expected I would use it much, I've spent hundreds of hours in the hot tub, relaxing, meditating, watching the birds fly above and the trees sway in the breeze against the backdrop of the steep rocky cliffs that make up the gorge walls. This place is magical for me and it feels alive with a gentle energy that holds and supports each thought and emotion. Being here brings peace of mind. Also, this has been a good place to visit with family and talk, relax and just have fun.
What makes this Lodge unique
While it is relaxing in its own right, this place is a good jump off point to explore the entire area from Mount Rainier National Park to all the points of interest in the Yakima valley and even further. The log construction makes this place have a different quality of sound, warmth and comfort. It is a very different feel from a framed house and a truly unique experience. If you've ever wondered what it was like to live in a log house, you would hardly believe the difference and the nuances of the experience. It really grows on you.

Wonderful USMC birthday!

Came here with my husband to celebrate the 244 birthday of the USMC and Veterans Day. Had a wonderful time. We had great weather to hike. The house was clean, stocked, and very warm. It was clean and felt very welcoming. It very much felt like home. Extra linen was available for the hot tub, the kitchen had what we needed to cook meals. I brought a lot of things to cook and found what I needed. Internet worked great, TV was nice and there was a great selection of movies too! The deck was my favorite part. We spent time outside watching the deer. Nice to put over vehicles in the garage. Getting hold of the property manage was easy and he keep in touch with us prior to arrival so we had clear instructions on what was needed, and we knew how to get ahold of him if anything was needed. We had a quiet peaceful time with no distractions. We are definitely ready to book this place again.
