Description

Twelve years ago we visited tico friends who invited us to what the NY Times called the “untamed coast” of Costa Rica.  We fell in love with this eclectic Caribbean coast, with its blend of tourists, expats, and long-term resident indigenous and Afro-Caribbean folks. The Caribbean Coast is different from the rest of Costa Rica. It is an area endowed with a bounty of unspoiled natural and cultural resources, and recognized for its extraordinary bio-diversity and beautiful beaches.

After bringing university students down for a course in sustainability we bought a piece of this paradise in a Wildlife Refuge and built our house 7 years ago.  We enjoy excellent international restaurants, and a culture that is friendly and laid back.

We built the house that would be perfect for us and after 3 years decided to rent it when we are not in Costa Rica. The house has a lovely large master bedroom, high ceiling, large screened windows, two ceiling fans--a lovely place to sit and read/work and sleep. The deck, where we spend most of our time is open to the ocean--it breezes, sounds, etc. but also it is an oasis/opening in the jungle that looks out over the ocean.

We now relish this special place, the privacy, where we can walk through our own rainforest jungle, take our path to the sandy beach and walk for miles along this almost deserted, palm-tree-lined shore of the Caribbean, observe the wildlife (sloths, howler monkeys, toucans, orapendulas, and more) from our large deck, and relax in the hammock feeling the cool ocean breezes and listening to the pounding of the surf. The house has a master bedroom, a second/smaller bedroom, shower, toilet, kitchen, and a large covered deck, all on the upper level, with great views of surrounding canopy.   There is high-speed internet, WiFi and ceiling fans in each room. Need something just ask Henry, our care taker in the lower level unit.

Keywords: Upper-level private five-room suite, with private path to beach and path through private rainforest, WiFi, walk to village and restaurants by beach or road. In Wildlife Refuge, with outstanding bio-diversity and excellent beaches.

We can help make your travel from SJO airport to our house easy, pleasant, and quite inexpensive.

Manzanillo

Loved everything..house, beach,Rosie, Henry and their dogs. Maybe our best trip ever

PURA VIDA

Just spent a week at Casa De Early Birds and loved it. Quiet, great home and yard. Steps from the Caribbean Sea. Close to town and Puerto Viejo. Henrry and family were always there to assist. Jungle, Sea, Great weather, great hosts. Pura Vida.

Paradise found

Casa de Earlybirds was everything we hoped for. It was the perfect place to get away, relax, enjoy the local culture and eat great local foods. Wish that the mosquitoes did not think the same thing. Apparantly we were a delicacy for them (not a slight on the accommodations, just something to expect in the rain forest). Manzanillo has a beautiful coral reef which we snorkelled several times and also several nice local run restaurants. All in all a wonderful getaway.

Wonderful place

We spent eight days at Casa de Earlybirds, and we wish it could have been longer. Everything about the home and the property is exactly what we hoped for and wanted out of our trip to Costa Rica. The house has everything we needed and more, including a caretaker and his family who were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The beach in front of the house is just as pictured, and it\'s an easy walk to surrounding beaches and the village of Manzanillo, or a short drive to Puerto Viejo. We can\'t wait to come back.

LOVE this property! Amazing wildlife from the comfort of a hammock! Steps to the very quiet beach!

From the comfort of the deck, we saw several species of monkeys, bats, lizards and geckos, some crazy leaf bugs and mantises, all kinds of amazing butterflies, crabs, and so many kinds of birds. From this point on, the definition of \'wildlife\' for me is watching a Capuchin monkey swing from one tree to another while a toucan flies right over him. We never saw any sloths on the property, though if we\'d gone for a walk away from the shore a bit more often, I\'m sure we would have. We saw plenty of them in the towns and along the highway. We were there almost a month over Christmas and New Years\', and the beach was probably as busy as it would ever get, but even so, we never saw more than a dozen people in our vicinity at any given time. Most of the time, we had the beach to ourselves. The surf was very rough for half of our stay. Surfers seemed to enjoy. We played around with a body board, but otherwise the water wasn\'t very swim friendly. On calmer days, however, we were able to go out past the breakers. On rough days, there were places to swim at the ends of the beach where the water is calmer. As for the house itself, it was remarkably cool even on hot days. We were able to dry our clothes and towels, even when they weren\'t in the sun. The hot water is very hot, and the cool water is nice and cool. We had very few insects on the deck, except at twilight. We rarely had any insects in the rooms. The house has netting carefully covering all of the windows and roof vents. The nets on the bed keep out the odd stray pretty effectively. There were friendly bats that surprised us a couple of times in the kitchen. The kitchen is sufficient and the fridge kept everything cold. Ice froze fast. We had a few ants interested in the water from time to time, but nothing serious. Never saw any roaches. A few interesting (and enormous) beetles, but friendly things. The beds are comfortable. The bedding is nice and the pillows are good. The grounds are beautifully kept. Sand and gravel (no mud). Henry and Rosi took great care of us while we were there. Rosi did a thorough cleaning every few days. Henry made sure that we were happy and that everything was working. He brought us new water a few times. While they were attentive and helpful, they were never annoying. They respected our privacy while we were there. Dan and Rose are excellent hosts. Communication was top notch and they were good enough to help us find dates that fit both our schedules.
