Surf’s up! Ty Gurney Surf School offers private and semi-private lessons as well as romantic sunset surf packages, safaris and paddle board lessons on Waikiki Beach. For a more tranquil escape, head 16 miles northeast to Kailua Beach. It’s a half mile of white sand, turquoise water and gentle breezes that beckon you to windsurf, body board, kayak and parasail.
 
Twelve miles north of Waikiki at Pearl Harbor lies the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, which includes the USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma and USS Utah memorials. It’s a must-see on every visitor’s list, so be sure to make your reservation in advance. Parking $35 per day. State Hawaii $9 per day tax.
