Description

This historic House On Main Street was known as the Victorian Tourist & Antique House in a by-gone era. It was originally constructed in the mid 1700's and was moved to this site, near where Fort Hoosac previously stood, around 1830. The house was visited by such famous personalities as President Woodrow Wilson, who enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner here in 1914. There were many additions and renovations before it was fully remodeled in 1986, taking great care to preserve the quality features of the house. Today there are five spacious, airy bedrooms, a great room, den & large country kitchen for our guests to enjoy.

In our latest remodel, we have included a Pro-Style 6 Burner Gas Jenn-Air Range, new living room furniture custom made by Taylor King and high end Serta mattress sets from the  iComfort, iSeries and Perfect Sleeper collections, even a 48' Flat Screen TV, a BluRay DVD player with free Netflix, Amazon Prime, Pandora, YouTube and other viewing and listening services.

Attractions you can walk to from the house: Williams College, Williams College Museum, Clark Art Institute (The Clark - museum), Williamstown Theatre Festival, Williamstown Film Festival, Images Cinema, Chapin Library of Rare Books & Manuscripts, Taconic Golf Club, Where'd you get that? Inc. (Great toy and game store), In Touch Day Spa, Water Street Grill

  • Donna Riley and TIMOTHY HAMILTON

Donna grew up in this magical, Brigadoon-like area and after many years of exploring the planet, landed here again in 2000 with her best gallivanting companion and husband, Timothy. Timothy started out his journey in the Akron area of Ohio before his time in Nebraska, Wisconsin and New York City. Donna and Timothy met in NYC where they both had thriving careers in the theater before escaping to the oxygen-filled hills of the Berkshires.Donna & Timothy purchased this House in 2003Why Donna & Timothy chose WilliamstownThis lovely home became a part of Donna and Timothy's life when Donna's parents bought it in 1991. Many wonderful memories of gatherings for family and friends, holidays and birthdays have been made in this house. We love to pass on that fun and loving energy to people from all over the world. There are also great amenities at this house including free, secure wifi. What makes this House uniqueWe fell in-love with this quiet home partly because it is walking distance to everything. Plus, the front and side porches are amazing. Not to mention the fact that the area and the house are steeped in rich history. Many years ago, Woodrow Wilson's daughter owned the house so President Wilson not only visited on many Holiday occasions, he also gave an impromptu speech to the towns-folk celebrating his election for a second term right from the side porch.

Guest Reviews

A large comfortable house situated only a few blocks from the center of campus and town.

We had a great Homecoming weekend here. Plenty of room and plenty of charm. TIm is an excellent host. Strongly recommend!

Perfect for large family gathering!

Every amenity was available - including an outside grill! Very responsive owners. Great place for large family gathering and base for Berkshire adventures.

Excellent

Great place. Would recommend to anyone.

A lovely stay!

Just finished a 3 night stay with 3 families at The House on Main. We skied one day at Berkshire East and 2 days at Jiminy Peak. The home is lovely, very clean and the owners were a pleasure to deal with. Beds are comfortable and cooking for 10 kids and 6 adults was an easy task in the kitchen. Nightly games by the fire. It was a wonderful way to ring in the New Year!

A great place for a family reunion!

We looked for a place that could hold a large group and provide not only sleeping space - but also room to relax, enjoy each other\'s company, eat a meal, etc. The House on Main Street filled all of those needs! The large dining area could seat everyone and there were several places to relax in the house in large or small groups. The kitchen is very well equipped which made meal prep very easy. All of this was in a very well maintained historic home. Additionally, Williamstown offered many things to do that were in easy walking distance which enhanced our time away. Donna and Tim\'s house in Williamstown worked very well for our family reunion and we all thoroughly enjoyed the week!
